HAR ETZION'S POST-COLLEGE PROGRAM

For over 50 years, Yeshivat Har Etzion has been a symbol of Torah excellence within the Religious Zionist community. Inspired by the guidance of its founders, Rav Yehuda Amital zt"l and Rav Aharon Lichtenstein zt"l, the Yeshiva features a unique blend of uncompromising and serious Torah study, with an openness to general culture and modernity. Over the years, this characteristic has attracted many graduate students to our Beit Medrash.

In the past, those that came to the yeshiva arrived out of personal initiative and drive. Not only did they gain from the high level of Torah study, but they inspired those around them with their maturity, seriousness and commitment.

Our post-collegiate program provides a serious environment for Torah growth within the general framework of the Yeshiva, while catering to the specific needs of graduate students. Graduate students are part of a support group with others in a similar position. In addition, the Yeshiva and its staff provide the educational and social resources which such a group demands.

These students are placed in existing shiurim, based on their respective levels. The yeshiva offers a wide range of Gemara shiurim, from basic to advanced, however elementary Hebrew language skills are required. Shiurim in Halacha, Tanach and Jewish philosophy are provided. A limited number of Herzog College courses are available as well.

If you are graduating this year and are considering dedicating next year to serious Torah study, we ask that you apply via the Apply Here button at the top of the page. Please note: this standard application form is primarily designed for the Post High School Program. You may ignore the request for a high school transcript. In addition, we ask that you also contact office@haretzion.org.il to give us a heads-up of your interest in this Post-College Program and include any additional information/questions that you may have. We will direct your letter to Rav Yair Kahn, the director of the program.

After graduating, I looked for a rigorous and serious learning experience in Israel and found Yeshivat Har Etzion. What appealed to me about Gush was the way it caters for numerous backgrounds without compromising the level or seriousness of learning. I did not imagine how greatly my textual skills and passion for learning would develop over the course of my year. The combination of great peers and brilliant staff creates a warm, vibrant and mature learning environment.

After finishing my studies in University, I wanted to return to the beit midrash; Gush was the obvious choice. I didn’t want to go to a kollel with just older talmidim, who just arrived in the morning and returned home at night – I wanted the ‘taam’ of a living beit midrash in a yeshiva environment. But I also didn’t want to go to a yeshiva where I would be just one of a few older students. Gush comprises both elements – a vibrant beit midrash of a yeshiva – with a large kollel learning in the same beit midrash.

Gush is also a unique place – both b’ruchnius and b’gashmius: It provides shiurim of a uniquely high calibre that truly enable a person to develop the tools of learning, a staff of ramim who are available and able to discuss every issue – whether inside the Gemara, Tanach, sifrei machshavah or indeed any issue of life, and a phenomenal Torah library. But it is also a very comfortable place to learn – the yeshiva provides accommodation, meals etc. and Allon Shevut itself is a relaxing and beautiful place to live filled with a warm community.

I did consider learning in other places, but in every aspect Gush simply provided everything I could need.

Yeshivat Har Etzion is a tower of the intellect. This is the place to find intensely motivated students, world-class rabbanim and poskim, and an atmosphere seriously devoted to avodat hashem and yir'at shamayim, all within a single institution. Coming after college, I felt that I was challenged and motivated to grow in my learning within a framework that entertains multiple viewpoints, and in a world where talmud torah is not merely an exercise, but a deep and powerful way of connecting to the Almighty.

During college I knew that I wanted to dedicate a year to serious Torah study before matriculating into medical school.  At Yeshivat Har Etzion I found the rare combination of true academic rigor, a stimulating peer group, devoted mentors, and a sophisticated educational philosophy.  Rather than a “detour” before years of professional training, my time at Har Etzion was my first taste of graduate-level education at its best – broadening, humbling, energizing, challenging, and inspiring.
